Pros

The author seamlessly blends history and fiction. She makes bessie a believable woman of her time and weaves a rich tapestry around her. As elizabeth gets older, her writing style develops.

It’s no exaggeration to say that alison weir has written and a lot of books. Alison weir is an exceptional storyteller, and she shines yet again with the last white rose.

Elizabeth of york is probably best known (if she's known at all to those who aren't well versed in tudor england) as the mother of henry viii. This book weaves her plantagenet background into the new tudor dynasty of the time. Out of all of the tudor ...  Read More

Poignantly, weir approaches each of the historical moments and personalities that influence elizabeth show-casing her royal household way-of-life. Weir does a wonderful job of writing that engages the reader/listener. Weir writes next. Weir’s non-fict...  Read More

The only problem i had with this book is that i had read this story before by another well known author. This version of elizabeth of york is a more fairy tale story, whereas another book on the same topic was a bit racier. Highly recommend and lookin...  Read More

Cons

I am always on the lookout for hidden gems, but this is a no. Stilted language, the women are all vapid without any thought in their heads except to obey their husbands and pray.

This wasnt my first weir book and its style was very similar to the others

Weirs writing to me seems a bit juvenile in some areas especially in the earlier parts of the book

Yet i didn’t know that much about elizabeth of york

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

I never believed elizabeth of york would fall in love with her uncle after he caused her mother and brothers so much heartache following the death of her father edward iv and there is no surviving proof that she did

We cannot judge people from the past with todays standards

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

That is ridiculous and rightly so it seems that this author is more interested in portraying elizabeth for who she must have been a loving and dutiful daughter sister wife and mother

And yes technically it’s the plantagenets time but the tudors are in there

I haven’t read many books about the earlier tudor times with edward iv so i really only knew the story from one other author who wrote a bit of a different version from this one
