Pros & Cons

Pros

It's witty and engaging, and it expands jemisin's realm of gods and godlings even further than i could have imagined it would. The diversity of the characters is so inherent and it's refreshing.

This book is well-written and the action does pick up later in the story, making this book a satisfying conclusion to this trilogy. With a short story to boot that ties up one couple's loose ends.

Sieh and shahar's situation grows more dire. Sieh is my favorite character from the first and sorely missed in the second.

Kind of like holding light in a sieve. For energies. And this book wraps up the trilogy well. But just as the bond is sealed, there is an immense release of magic.

Cons

I'm sorry to say that i found it to be a massive letdown. The jacket description is completely inaccurate.

With strong characters a bit of romance a bit of sex and a terrible plot to tear asunder the fabric of the universe

After all spoiler alert for the first two books in the trilogy the first book followed a young woman who evolved into the god yeine while book two followed the bright lord itempas cast down to live amongst mortals until he properly atoned for his sins

Instead though kingdom follows young sieh the godling of children whose presence has been constant throughout the series and whose bond with a pair of human children turns out to be the beginning of the end for this saga

Sieh’s efforts to find companionship set many many years after the end of book two ends up spiraling out of control with sieh’s divine nature crumbling and the old social order the high caste of arameri feeling their reign coming to an end

The passage of time got a bit confusing and i had a lot of trouble figuring out remaths motives throughout the majority of the story

Overall i still find the first book the weakest and yeine remains a bit flat in terms of personality and plot contribution

Interestingly enough on closer inspection i find true evil black and white either or good and bad left completely out of this appetizing brew

It’s pretty tricky to end non corporeal entities
