Caleb the protagonist is loveable but a flawed who reminded me of the lines said by a character called macheath in the play the beggars opera by john gayif the heart of a man is depressed with caresthe mist is dispelled when a woman appears

Caleb however is selfaware and knows this is true only temporarily but cant get out of the cycle of romance to romance
