A story that has a very timeless quality, it is a dystopia that is not outside the realm of possibility which is what makes it so haunting. It is a dystopian view of what could be but in many ways is a book about lots of women and men's lives as they ...  Read More

Cons

We know what life is like today so there's really no need to make constant flashbacks to it. Sorry margret. Returning and will try another seller. Not for me.

There is very little substance to the book, that it is full of page after page of 'filler' there was an undercurrent of staccato highlighted throughout the book. Attempts towards the end of the novel to give offred and her master a bit more humanity b...  Read More

I am finding the characters complicated as so far the book for me doesn’t flow as well as i had anticipated at present

So like many people i have watched the tv show and that’s how i found out that the tv series is based on a book

I can’t say for sure if i prefer the book differences to the tv differences as i understand why some aspects of the book may have been changed for tv’s purpose but i was a bit surprised in the book that hannah isn’t mentioned a lot and luke is considered an afterthought

It did surprise me as well that they believed it was because the caucasian birth rate was going down and every other race was more fruitful so gilead was also born about of racial superiority as well as infertility

It has a great plot and characterisation suitably graphic in places but the storyline unfortunately i found disjointed and difficult to follow a mishmash of events awkwardly stapled together

Margaret atwood also seems to have an obsession with smoking cigarettes and drinking whiskey which gets rather repetitive
