Reviews summary

Bailey translates his extensive knowledge of our health care system into the powerful medium of story

This book gives great insight into what is going on in our health care system today and just how much waste there really is in current hospital systems

The protagonist, don (short for dante), is a young resident who, guided by an enigmatic physician-professor whose first name is vergil— himself somewhat of a poet-sage—explores the hellish nightmare of our nation’s diseased medical institutions, and comes face to face with a legion of demons, including hospital administrators, healthcare professionals, insurance companies, politicians, and the pharmaceutical industry

With a keen eye for the details of pathology worthy of flaubert or maupassant, bailey forces us to see, up close and personal, the truth involving people like us who are, because the system has failed them, victims of our so-called healers
