The narrator does not have the most pleasant voice and ijust saw the pictures in the actual book and they add a lot which you dont go on the audio book

Not a hagiography but the author really doesnt do an adequate job of delving deep into the chancellors personality until late in the book

This wouldnt normally matter in a biography of a statesperson however the book is primarily a personality sketch and not a political work

At a slimforbiography 303 pages there’s a superficiality to the book that makes it almost feel like a woodwardesque polaroid of a specific sliver in time rather than a bio on a politician who led germany for sixteen years

For example marton sets up a dramatic scene describing the split election results of 2005 the election in which merkel ascended to the chancellorship but doesn’t think it important enough to describe how merkel fought her way through that to win the crown
