It’s anxiety in written form and was one of the fastest paced books next to lord of the flies. Read it in a day (rare for me). It's a tightening in the chest that is desperate to be released.
The novel is gory but not as action packed as i would have preferred. This novel is an amazing beast both in its storytelling and in the craft of its prose.
Cons
The audiobook narration is ridiculous. Tremblay isn't entirely devoid of talent, as he has shown in the mark genevich novels. I agree with some people on here that this story would have been better as a novella.
The end is very abrupt and unsatisfying. Is it possible for a trained * shot to miss a stationary adversary from 5 feet?
Usually that happens when a writer botches an interesting idea. There is no intent here at deception or trickery, it is just author laziness.

I thought the ending was strong but never fully bought into how the bad guys got to where they got or really understood what the true consequences were outside of the group of people the book focuses on
