Pros

The story is robust. I'm working my way through my tbr list and this one has been on it since 2017. Very well written and very well paced, really keeps you hooked. Overall an enjoyable read.

This is a book where a feeling of discomfort and dread pushes you forward into reading more. With a satisfying but not overly predictable end. I appreciate the epilogue because it ties both stories together.

An excellent prequel to girl with all the gifts. Carrey is able to tie this ending up in a very hopeful finale which will lead into the second book, the girl with all the gifts, seamlessly.

An endless road trip to nowhere. Which is the most disappointing.

One of the main problems is that there’s a classic stereotypical mystical autistic character, stephen greaves. The characters are flat and predictable. They're simply too shallow to discuss.
