Pros & Cons
Pros
Leaphorn’s pursuit of a wolf-witch is leading him where even the bravest men fear, on a chilling trail that winds perilously between mysticism and *. It is a story that is rich in mystery and navaho culture.
I love the character development which shows the age and experiential differentiation b/w leaphorn and chee. The main characters are smart, observant, and not simply left brain thinkers. They are intuitive and almost seem to flow in an additional sens... Read More
Hillerman is a slow-burn to start, hits the ground running and resolves sometimes abruptly. Rereading hillerman’s leap horn and chee series for the second time feels like reacquainting with old friends.
It's always a plus for me when i'm kept guessing until the end, and i did with this book. As usual way better than the tv series. I have been hooked ever since. I look forwarded to many more adventures.
Joe leaphorn and jim chee series** 1. The shape shifter. Meanwhile, mckee finds danger he never imagined while conducting his research. Mckee is more of the main character and the better developed of the two.
Cons
This is incredibly frustrating as you have to manually flip ahead and then one wrong tap and it reverts. Hard to follow and in no way enjoyable. Hoping for much better with my next hillerman novel.
Too much time spent on topography and witches. This book evidently shows that it is the beginning. Is only a minor character.

I have to believe the progressive price increase on kindle is a strategy to draw one in and then make a hefty profit on the later books in the series
