    The first 3 parts of the book are a wellwritten and objective history of 10th century europe

    During this period of history there was no concept of separation of church and state so it is to be expected that there is a large dose of religious history however the author overdoes the religious aspect towards the end of the book

    Collins gets down to really focusing on their lives which leaves you wishing you had had a fuller understanding of the individual earlier in the book when heshe was first introduced
