Definitely more than plug and play but not so bad that you cant get through setup by carefully following the steps in the instructions

I read some reviews of the radio which stated that the audio was not that good however i found the audio just fine

When connected to different external antennas in the ham shack receiver really came to life although had to dial in some attenuation so as to not overload the front end of the radio
