Alan watt's characteristic intelligent and compassionate way of writing shines through. His style is clear and straightforward, and he had the knack of making even the knottiest matters understandable.

Watts attends to the importance of seeing the original chinese ideograms rather than relying on their printed romanized rough equivalents. Al chung-liang huang adds his grass style chinese calligraphy of phrases from the book.

Despite its unfinished state, it's a gem we wouldn't want to be without. There's plenty in in it for both the newbie as well as others. This short introduction takes the central elements and lays them out in a simple but comprehensive way.

The depth of clarity in spiritual wisdom is remarkable. To see this, read a few verses attributed to the ancient greek philosopher heraclitus or the yankee mystic emerson. All separations and barriers are creations of our own minds.
