You can't flip back each month, so you have to tear each one off. I believe if someone only wanted it for memento purposes it should a carry a flag of some sort to highlight the fact that you are buying an 'old' calendar.

The only thing i don’t like is that you have to rip the month off when you want to turn to the next page

The pen is ok but make sure you replace the lid asap or it dries out
