Excellent youtube video instructions to the fore. That being said, you have to be a bit tech savvy to configure these functionalities.

The ds920+ is terrific. The build quality is lower than what they made in the past, but functionality is all there. With dsm 7. Dsm, ds photo ds audio works very well.

It's not as fast as google at syncing and indexing but it’s not bad. Time machine backups are fast from 4 macbook pro machines across gigabit ethernet. Was able to sustain about 50mb/s no problem over the included cat5e cables.

Cons

The 220+ is too complicated to install and manage if you want a simple backup system. Worked well for 2 weeks. Just a flashing blue light. Macs have to access files only via a web-interface from offsite locations.

Theres lots of great third party apps for the nas but dont hesitate to try the first party ones that synology offer right out of the box

Been using synology products for a while and know them inside out


I needed a liteweight remote unit that i could sync with from my office and home office


I was going to build an unraid nas but every review for synology systems just realized how much of a gap i will have with a custom solution


I am glad i didnt since synology skipped 2022 for upgrading their two bay nas

    It is not cheap and the nas hdds to go with it are also not cheap

    It relatively inexpensive you will pay more for the hard drives than the nas itself

    Be prepared to run the raid setup over night takes approx 8 hours to setup raid5 on my 3x8tb hard drives
