The problem is i think there are some recent changes in apples firmware that basically make it not boot off of any usb device properly unless youre booting an os x install disc

I have a late 2011 macbook pro and when trying to boot certain live cds or other discs like windows it kind of works but then eventually hangs up when trying to load

Windows would always fail to install shortly after detecting devices until i put the disc drive back in the computer

Even creating an official windows 7 installer onto a usb flashdrive hangs the same way so it seems to be a glitch for anything usb

Therefore if you need to be able to boot anything outside of the os on 2011 or newer macs buy this at your own risk
