My reasoning was that i wanted to leave one standard antenna in place because it was of lower gain and therefore projects a more spherical emission and likely better coverage to other floors directly above the router

These high gain antennas focus the signal in a narrower beam vertically to achieve greater coverage horizontally at the detriment of vertical coverage
