Pros & Cons
Pros
This thing is awesome. Then a few licks with this puppy and done. It's really beautiful how simple it is in concept and execution. Highly recommend this product for beginners and experience wood workers.
Out of the box its very sharp, glided through some hard maple. Picked this up as something of a throwaway plane to keep my far more expensive ones safe on questionable lumber. Perfect for the budding woodworker learning to hone their hand tool skills.... Read More
After setting the blade protrusion with a old business card, tapping in the wedge fit blade. Grasping the blade with pliers and tapping the back of the black with a wood hammer is a slow but effective way to adjust and remove the blade.
Cons
The wood split right down the middle, rendering the tool useless. Would have been nice to know how to adjust the blade.
Highlights
Quality
Overall very pleased with this product and would buy again in a heartbeat you know for a gift or something
I am incredibly happy with this plane and look forward to using it on harder material
I put 2 tiny slices in my hand fooling with the iron in the beginning
There is beauty in japanese efficiency quality and simplicity and this little block plane is a good example of that
Shipping
Apparently so the iron would not fall out during shipping halfway around the world
Packaging/appearance
The sole of the plane was pretty straight out of the box
Was hesitant and intimidated to take on the challenge of tuning up a kanna
I was making wood shavings a couple of minutes after removing it from its packaging
Able to start using it right out of the box
