Pros & Cons
Pros
This bit lasts. I clean it 1x per week with vinegar and it works like new. Perfect for the hobbyist.
Cons
This bit is not for hardwoods. While attempting to drill hard maple the bit is barely capable of cutting. Many of the teeth of the bit were smashed, bent, and dulled.
For the same price, the lee valley sawtooth bit is much higher quality. This thing was machined in the worst possible way. I’d expect it to last maybe 2 uses before it’s totally burnt.
This is the third such forster bit i’ve tried and the others were worse! Not happy. This bit is incredibly frustrating. Save yourself frustration and get a different one.
Highlights
Quality
Cuts very well holding up well and appears to be good quality
Either the bit was not sharp from the manufacturer of the quality of the steel is poor
I have drilled 4 holes with the 1 116 bit and it did better when i realized i had to clean out the slots in the drill it
Packaging/appearance
I was pleased with the packaging the forstner bit came in
There is a steel tube that needs to be glued into the hole

The teeth are coarse so the bit and workpiece chatter quite a bit if the hole is not exactly perpendicular to the work surface
