Pros & Cons

Pros

Staub is a great brand, highly recommended, especially at this price. The graphite color is beautiful. It's never lost its beautiful shine.

It gives an incomparable taste to your dishes if you let it slowly simmering on the stove. No chips, rusting, or wear during the past 14 months of weekly lemony soup nirvana. Looks great on my stove and cooks well.

Long-simmered, citrus-accented soup creates specific cookware needs. Cast iron cookware is the best for cooking any kind of food. Despite what you might read elsewhere, enameled cast iron isn't really more non-stick.

In the intervening years, i discovered staub and started building up a collection. I know i will be passing all of my beautiful staub pieces down to my children and grandchildren someday.

Cons

It's too expensive to be disposable, and too delicate to be expensive. The box was worn and ripped down the side. It is defective after used it less than 10 times.

Staub is a great brand for an iron cocotte so when i saw the price cheaper here than in france i just ordered it

Shipping

The seller had packed very well and shipping was fast

Packaging/appearance

Sure it won’t chip but it’s ugly and no ceramic coating

Anyway i had been using my dads dutch oven as a designated pot for making yogurt cream of wheat and oatmeal when i noticed the flaking

Competitiveness

I owned my last one for many many years—and it still looked like new

My larger la cruset dutch oven and allclad soup pot are hardly used in lieu of this now

Overall i think it is slightly superior to the le crueset for the reasons stated

I dont grease it or use cornmeal i just drop the dough in the pot and put it back in the superhot oven

It never even thinks of sticking

More recently ive also been using it as a dutch oven for making soups and stews which usually involve tomatoes or another acid ingredient which would do a number on my regular cast iron cookware but i dont even season this pot

The inside is dark gray and will not show stains which was a major complaint i had with le crueset

The lid also seems to be a tighter fit

This review is for the 5qt tall staub enameled cast iron cocotte or dutch oven with lid

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

One thing i want to mention right up front is that when it says 34tall34 it also means a smaller footprint than a typical 5 quart pot the diameter is only about 9 inches
