This book provides an excellent and exhaustive discussion of the important barbell training movements. I highly recommend this book in conjunction with practical programming, as the programming section of ss is a bit weak.
The really cool thing is it is absolutely recommendable to *everyone*. The upgrades for the 2nd edition definitely make it worthwhile.
Rippetoe writes plainly and there are many illustrations. This album is heavy. It has great down-tuned sludgy guitars, decent drumming, and brutal vocals.

I do the stronglifts 5x5 and lets just say reading this book before starting wouldve make me not spend the first month sorting out a back injury thanks to improper deadlift form

The writing style is straightforward conversational and doesnt pull any punches like his comment on whether you should use weightlifting gloves the only legitimate use of a glove is to cover an injury like a torn callus or a cut
