Much decent and intelligible narrative fails to be good writing. The prose for a gifted writer such as atkinson lacks grace. The guy reading is impossible to listen to.

I read this not knowing it was part of a series and those familiar with the characters from other writings of kate atkinson are likely to end with a different impression than i got
