Its really square and the quality is what you would expect from a starrett.
Price
A joy to use which will last more than a lifetimeonly downside is price.
I love it and for me, the price did not matter.
Competitiveness
I have used 2 old stanley models i inherited from my grandfather as well as a newer stanley my kids gave me a few years ago.
Fair deal but again, i compared to a older 1980's stanley.
