Since i use it in my soups or broths and i usually strain my broths so the broken pieces doesnt really matters to me. Good deal. Very pleased with purchase.
The pods are as fresh as you can get short of picking them out of the field yourself. They are a treat and they sweeten her breath nicely. It's very economical, this bag makes a lot of tea! The unopened bag has a great aroma.
Cons
The packaging is off, does not list a sell by or expiration date. The bag says that it is treated with sulfur dioxide. The description says it doesn’t and not listed under ingredients, but below that in fine print it states contains sulfur dioxide as ... Read More

This was real chinese star anise… and it is very important that it is pure because the closely related japanese star anise can cause severe reaction and has neurotoxins that can cause seizure
