There was no indication of the steel type (not chrome vanadium steel, then) unfortunately after attempting to loosen one particularly stuck bolt one of the pins in the linkage deformed and now it's nearly useless.

Theyre not a substitute for mole grips but the mechanism takes the slop out of an adjustable spanner so youre not trying to hold them tight as you hold the nut

I bought this as i needed it for plumbing in difficult places where an adjustable spanner often slips off

I decided to return it as not much use but took the chance of getting a better one

The replacement arrived and it was so much better and really grips tightly on the nut

From what i can see the problem on the first is caused by the hole where the bolt slides in the adjuster is drilled into the body was not in quite the right position and the lock would not move in it as it jams against the top
