This book defies easy categorization. Read it for the rich bounty of anecdotes about eccentric people. Some nurturing is required to help overcome that which has the potential to make us full out crazy.

Pete dexter has a clear instinct for how to depict each event and relationship. Dexter pulls you in, makes you feel as though you are the sole witness to spooner's life - that you have an obligation to see him through.

This is a humorous satire that lampoons sacred societal icons. Spooner is the survivor twin after his more-loved brother dies while their mother is in labor. His siblings, an older sister and two younger half-brothers are his intellectual superiors in... Read More

Cons

At worst, these same-toolers are the projections of a homophobic mind. Life's too short to spend with inexplicable characters. The chicken * reference is one of many passages in the book that made no sense to me.
