Pros
Sony bdp-s1700 plays all regions a & b blu-ray discs without any problem. Even the dvd mages shown much more sharpness and color is so dynamic and solid perhaps due to upscaling. Absolutelyno regrets in purchasing this bd/dvd player.
Rmt-tx100u works great on both region 1 and 2. Usually it detects which kind, but if it doesn't the controls work fine.
Cons
Bdp-bx370 is not region free. Only plays zone a bluray and region 1 dvd. Not region free because it does not support movies from france. Unsupported color system. Can't play bd ray or amp.
Machine freezes. I have to unplug it, then plug it back in for it to work. Plugged out the power, waited for 5 mins, plugged back in but no luck.

I have had many sony players and they work fine for six months to a year and then the eject mechanism wears out
These players from this vendor are made region free by a hardware modification while some other vendors only use a software modification

I figure i got my moneys worth of use
It would have been too expensive to return them and i wanted to be able to get some foreign films that have not been released in the u
Its a little bit more than i wanted to pay but its worth it
Competitiveness
I doubt that other brands last any longer than the sony machines
I will probably continue to buy sony machines would recommend them to others

Beware the included adaptor is for 110v not 240v as they stated you have to buy adaptor for 240v

If you want to watch avi on a decentsized hard drive 2 tb or 4 tb depending on format
