You have to insert a key type item into a very small hole next to the motion sensor in order to power on the unit

It has a really decent range to detect the motion and once the motion stops the light remains on for an additional ten second before it switches to the dim mode

The dimmer mode seems to me of a more spot light type of light rather than the flood light that the motion detector light produces
