Pros & Cons
Pros
This book is not too long and is not incredibly complicated. However, one thing i have not seen other reviewers mention is the structure of the book.
Passion is byproduct of hard work, argues cal. Newport debunks the passion hypothesis (follow your passion) invented by richard bowles, author of what color is your parachute.
This book is 1,000% recommended to anyone having trouble or overthinking what career or major they should aim for. The author uses his own experience as a mit trained academic searching for the right fit to launch his academic career.
Cons
I agree with newport that a lot more people need to learn to work harder and stop waiting for the world to give them the job they think they deserve.
This neophyte has very little to offer, other than platitudes, and a seemingly child like understanding of what motivates people. The only motivating thing is the phrase on the cover.
Author claims to found one of the main premises of the book passion takes time on science. In no way do the study authors imply passion takes time.
