I connected the screen to the pi 3b via a female to male 40 pin to 26 pin socket idc ribbon cable with no issues

Got this for my husband who is using a pi to run a camera on our 3d printer and not having a screen was a bit annoying

We just had the screen and just 3d printed a case for it and it is perfect for our needs touch screen is not much use for this but hey if we ever reuse it we might need that feature

First i tried using the raspbian img file included cd but it resulted in boot errors rainbow screen of death on several different microsd cards
