The turkey baster under suction simply gurgles the liquids. The bulb part isn't stiff, so it doesn't create enough suction. If you squeeze the ball hard enough, water leaks out the side of the ball.

Make sure to squeeze out the air either in the water to give the water a little more aeration or before you put it into the water and it does suck up waste pretty well

I wasnt able to find a turkey baster that was long enough to reach the bottom of my tank and this was the cheapest item i found with the reach i needed
