Ive purchased metal class 66 bobbins from the local craft store notably dritz brand and generally had at least one in each package of 4 that wouldnt fit usually onto the bobbin winder but a few wouldnt turn freely in the bobbin compartment either

Granted the singer 401a does not make use of the smaller hole closer to the center so i can not comment on its placement
