I use a topstitch needle slow the machine speed down and load the thread so it comes off from the side not from the top
I did have a few thread breaks but controlled those with a topstitch needle and slower embroidery speed

Anyone that sews regularly knows metallics can be a pain

I do have to use cling tape on them for storage though to keep the thread ends from unwinding as there isnt a groove to secure the end of the thread

I hand stitch instead of machine work

Side note you can also thread them up for some hand embroidery but you cant pull apart the individual threads
