But he pulls them in and out then the get clogged with dirt and they dont put any water out

You will also need to cut a small hole in the bottom of the bottle so that as the water drips out air is pulled in otherwise there will be no water drip

However there is much variation in the threading of water bottles so despite collecting a few dozen before vacation expecting to have them all fit they didnt fit and i ended up getting a plant sitter for two days of watering
