    We need to update the firmware regularly on sas hba cards to get the required speeds lt6gbps but all are current sas controllers either they are refurbished old models not less than 7 years and reached end of life in official site of lsi or junk or outdated which will soon become legacy for greater disk speeds gt 6gbps

    Hbas are useful when you are using non sata drives and if the disk rotations are more than 10k rpms which is not the case in general hdds or nas grade hdds max up to 7200rpm and only possible with sas drives

    For home or smb nas the above sata controller with asm1166 tested and approved by unraid community and freenas native linux support and zfs drivers included is sufficient
