Realize that there is no fill in the bottom side of the bag where the sleeve pad is located

The bed actually extends outside the 20 pad area you can actually see that even in the 3d drawings you have in the product description and i had no reason to compromise the extra room

The answer is that it is 12 insulated the upper half where the sleeping pad slides in is not insulated and the lower half is insulated

If you look closely at the photo of the upper half of the bag with the quilt folded out you can see a horizontal stitch line across the width of the bag that shows where the insulation baffles start
