    If you have a monitor with a hdmi port and a computer with a display port then you want the dp male going into your computer with an hdmi female coming from your monitor

    When paired with a standard hdmi cable you can now connect from hdmi to displayport so either an hdmionly device like a an old pc can connect to a monitor with only a display port input
