Pros & Cons
Pros
Henkes is an terrific author. Love this book, as well as weekend with wendell. Kevin henke is a keeper!
Sheila rae, the brave, written by kevin henkes, is a nice story for young children. Shelia rae is a little psychopath.
Easy read for 1st-2nd grader. He finds issues that trouble younger children an opens a good door for discussion. Very interesting for young readers.
Cons
Sheila rae pretends that the cherries in her fruit cocktail are the eyes of dead bears. She climbs trees who she imagines are evil creatures and breaks their fingers off. Sheilarae is not brave.
There is something deeply troubling with this book. It seems benign but when you consider it -- it is very violent and dark. I'm inn shock that it has so many positive reviews.
