Pros & Cons
Pros
It is time to realise and be convinced that using the very simplequantum mechanical models one can realise results in excellent agreementwith experiments. Tackles the question of consciousness and its relations to godel's theorems, modern physics and ... Read More
Sir roger penrose (born 1931), is an english mathematical physicist and philosopher. He is emeritus professor of mathematics at the university of oxford, and emeritus fellow of wadham college. Penrose deserves the accolades for tackling this difficult... Read More
Roger penrose's new book, the emperor's new mind, is published by simon & schuster.
He writes in a brilliant way, providing great detail and thoroughness. He hints at an approach to the subject of consciousness, the great puzzle that science has heretofore been unable to explain.
Penrose discusses several lines of argument to close the gap. These are close to popular science but evolve from a fundamental picture of the subject, as opposed to the storyboard type of discourse that penrose writes.
Cons
The book is very vague (except chapters on goedel theorem, where penrose at least stays within his area of expertise). Also it reads more like a religious tract where the author has a preconception and would try anything and everything to confirm it. ... Read More

Godels theorem is also dealt with lucidly
Competitiveness
Its also a quest of one of our primary needsthe knowledge of our selves
To methe best science book i ever read
In doing so we have a marvellous survey of classical and modern physics including the mysteries of the quantum world
It is also significantly more technical in places than the predecessor

Unfortunately like so many others a poor mathematical background makes for a less than adequate grasp of the more difficult equations that are found in physics
