But i couldnt find a plastic cover that went right around the edges without excessive plastic on the edges

I know my new passport will be well protected and because it is a clear plastic cover i do not have to remove the cover when the passport needs to be checked by officials

Ordered different passport covers back in the summer but was unable to get passport into global entry reader without taking it out of cover

Only downside you will have to bend your back cover of your passport a bit in order to get the plastic cover to fit over both front and back of passport
