Just leave it for an hours or so it becomes pretty well inflated

As for deflating you have to open nosel and roll the air out and then close the nosel again to keep it deflated while in storage

I do wish they had used the same 2 step valve that the xlounger inflatable air mattress uses for the pillow small for inflating and larger one for deflating but thermarest doesnt offer that either
