Using these valves in conjunction with a solar water heater system they perform 2 functions mixing the water to reasonable temperatures and stop waterflow altogether should the coldwater input fail for any reason

Do not harm the oring when reinstalling lubricate oring with water or oring lube to keep it from tearing

Note the painted red marks and white spot in the plastic

Red painted marks on the brass part along with the white dot on the temperature dial all need to line back up the way they were

There is also a small brass metal washer if it falls off you have to put that back on
