Pros

I'm no woodsman and bought this to split down logs which are too big to burn easily in our fireplace.

Works a treak with a sledgehammer. Takes practice and patience but it does the job. Excellent in seasoned wood.

Cons

Tried to split some logs for kindling. It embedded itself 2cm into my leg after hitting and slightly fracturing my shin bone. The tip is blunt as a blunt thing.

Generally it just splits the log in two and you have to finish the job with an axe

It does however split logs that would never have split with an axe in the first place

It is useless on greenwet logs

On these the tool doesn’t penetrate the wood at all

However it takes getting used to and missing entirely or clipping the edge of the wedge and chipping it can happen

Ive still to find a reliable means of holding the log in position and currently rely on a hole in the lawn thats developed where ive been splitting logs in the same place
