A little concerned that the top where the laces are press on my husbands foot

But thats only after one wearing ordered a size 9 12 m for my dad who is normally a 9w and has a high instep

He really preferred no laces but he came up with a little trick in where he loosely tied each end of the lace and just slips his feet right in
