I called havoline tech service the supplier of the dexcool to get their input and was informed that the only way to measure the freeze point of dexcool was to use a refractometer spectrometer

It provided a reading of the antifreeze sample within a couple degrees of the manufacturers specified freeze point

I still think the old antifreeze and testers were effective and much simpler when there was only one kind to work with

I had been using the float style hydrometer for years but grew tired fussing with temperature compensation to get corrected measurements and having to handle so much electrolyte fluid to get the measurement in the first place
