    After the removal of the carpet and before the installation of the underlayment and floor, the noise of feet upon the plywood made me wonder if it would sound like a bowling alley on the first floor when the floor was done.

    It's best to use a buddy to lay it out and cut it to fit- you could even leave it rolled and get a bit of weight on it before trying to cut it.
