Pros

The instructions are loooooong and a bit confusing the first time, but i promise they're worth reading. For those who love the original catan, this version is just as complex and enjoyable.

Yet, this game manages to be even more rich than regular catan, closer in fact to the experience of playing catan + cities and knights expansion + seafarer’s expansion.

If you're wondering if you should get this, the answer is yes, get it. My daughter-in-law helps me pick gifts for my 8-year old granddaughter, who wanted rivals for catan. Hard to find and not on amazon.

Cons

It is somewhat complicated, but even more so it is difficult to develop a strategy. I'm not sure this deluxe edition is worth the money.

And this game gets a lot better with the various expansions each of which offer different wayscombinations that can be played

If you are familiar with the board game version of catan then you will pick this up pretty easily

The other version is not the deluxe version and does not come with the card trays a must in my opinion

And lastly i dont think that the player with the first turn has a significant advantage

Packaging/appearance

With that out of the way let me give you some background about me

In fact now that we know it i could train somebody to play it much easier than i could expect them to learn from the instruction booklet
