Thought it might fully surround the mattress and close with a zipper but it goes on like a fitted sheet

I havent tested it to see if it is water proof yet but when it came out of the dryer a bit damp on the soft side the plastic side was totally dry

I agree with other reviewers who stated that is comes out of the washer quite wet
