I did not follow the instructions to use a 2 x 4 x 8 i tried but it was too hard to hold an 8 piece of wood steady to secure to ceiling of garage

And more yet by discarding the shell brackets as per the open joist instruction

They were a little tricky lowering but once you figure out the mechanism its kind of like raising and lowering blinds then its a piece of cake
