I got a sketch from a friend that scans for i2c addresses and it returned something on 0x3f

I used that address and adjusted the contrast using the pot on the back and sure enough it worked fine

The i2c boards are definitely not the highest quality pieces ive ever seen and theyre soldered at a bit of a jaunty angle with some contact between the boards
