The hose is easy to get started - simply fill the cup end with water and hold straight up. Easy to use and works quite well.

Small siphon is great for cleaning gunk in a 5-gallon tank. Flow is perfect, not too fast, but strong enough to remove debris. Much better way to clean my 5 gallon than with a large siphon.

Cons

Very little suction to pull up dirt. The suction is not enough for larger, heavier pebbles. Gave up and grabbed a cheap turkey baster.

Also to start it you just have to dunk it in the water and then take it out while the open end is facing up
